The kitsch-painter and teacher Jan-Ove Tuv is fascinated by myths and storytelling as a guiding principle for culture. He stresses the notion that painters should be conscious about why they work as they do.

Apelles was asked why he touched and retouched his pictures with so much care, to which he replied:
