Successful opening!-The Kitsch Biennale is making history

The 11. September, Pasinger Fabrik in Munich opened its doors to the public.
German media shows unprecedented interest for a show of independant, figurative painting.

After two years of planning, The Kitsch Biennale has become reality. The day of the opening, an article in the national, German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung featured guest exhibitor Patricia Traub`s painting "Caregivers". Bavarian Radio Channel 5 informed about the opening.

At 7.30 PM, Pasinger Fabrik`s Thomas Linsmayer officially opened the exhibition. Mr. Linsmayer said: "Pasinger Fabrik is proud to present a show so different from the mainstream museum art exhibitions," before adding: "Kitsch painers want to tell stories with their pictures, in stead of just making indifferent objects, hanging on walls."
His speech was followed by that of Mary Landa, who graciously accepted the invitation to speak. Mrs Landa is Collection Manager for Andrew and Betsy Wyeth`s collections at The Brandywine River Museum, and focused on the qualities of Patricia Traub`s work. She referred to The Kitsch Biennale as "a radical exhibition."
Jan-Ove Tuv, representing WorldWideKitsch, compared the kitsch painter`s situation in the art world with H. C. Andersen`s "The Ugly Duckling".

After the speeches, pianist Joachim Kwetzinsky performed Aftur Spildo`s "Opus 1", as well as an excerpt from Valentin Silvestrov`s "Kitsch Musik".

Close to 30 participating kitsch painters were present at the opening. The vernissage eventually continued in the restaurant at Pasinger Fabrik. WorldWideKitsch was happy to see so many exhibitors responding to the invitation to attend the opening. Painters from (among other countries) Italy, USA, Canada, Norway, Germany, Finland and Sweden got a chance to establish contact, making the milieu for figurative painting prosper.

The show has been reviewed in several newspapers, among others in Süddeutsche Zeitung and Abend Zeitung - unusual in a country where shows of figurative (non-ironic) painting seldom is reviewed at all.
